Ever wonder who made sure Wallace and Ladmo were following the rules? Enter Inspector Blitz, Arizona’s very own (and completely fictional) Kid’s Show Inspector! Blitz’s job was to check that Wallace and Ladmo had a valid, up-to-date kid’s show license—and he wasn’t shy about it.

First appearing in 1965 after Pat McMahon’s temporary departure from Channel 5, Blitz was originally played by Red McIlvane, a talk show host at the station. With a loud blast of his whistle, Blitz would storm onto the set, interrupt the fun, and demand a full inspection, bringing chaos and laughter with him. He served as a short-lived replacement for the character of Gerald.

Even after McMahon returned, Inspector Blitz continued to make occasional surprise visits, later portrayed by Channel 5 newscaster Sandy Gibbons, also known for hosting Dialing for Dollars. Whether blowing his whistle or halting the show mid-sketch, Blitz made sure that "law and order" always had a hilarious twist.
