Played by Wallace (Bill Thompson), Mr. Grudgemeyer was the grumpy, short-tempered park regular who constantly battled Ladmo for control of a simple park bench. All Grudgemeyer wanted was peace and quiet with his little animal friends—but Ladmo’s loud potato chip crunching (and pretty much anything else Ladmo did) would drive him into a fury.

Their epic slapstick battles became a fan favorite, filled with smashed hats, overturned benches, and bird food flying everywhere. Mr. Grudgemeyer was created specifically as a comic foil for Ladmo, giving the show a fun, physical edge without disrupting the friendship between Wallace and Ladmo.

Wallace even based Grudgemeyer's gruff voice on Channel 5’s real-life general manager at the time, Dick Rawls, adding an inside joke for those in the know.
